'Strange House' is the debut album from Southend's musical export, The Horrors. A raucous mixture of late-60's psychedelia, rockabilly and malevolent indie splendor.
Polydor wanted to release a bonus DVD to accompany the debut album. After meeting the band - they wanted me to go off on a tangent and see what happens. They just had one request. Can I include some taxidermy in the design...Combining singer Faris's illustrations, with photo montages, I set out to build a " strange house" environment in After Effects.
Spiral staircases, holographic mirrors and flickers of film grain all contributed to the feel of the menus. I printed out the photo gallery and shot it with a hand held camera to give it a truly lo-fi feel. For the icing on the cake, the band recorded bespoke sounds from their analogue synths to link with the animation.
